Marc Zola, LMFT & LPC | Counseling for Hearing Loss: Why Counseling for Hearing Loss?

Hearing loss affects more than just the physical ability to communicate. It impacts relationships, expectations and feelings about ourselves. The emotional trauma of hearing loss often produces enormous personal and inter-personal changes which can can lead to depression, anxiety, relational problems and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Research has shown that counseling or psychotherapy, along with audiologic services, can help improve emotional functioning and overall copign with hearing loss. Much of my practice is dedicated to supporting the parents, spouses and family members of those with hearing loss. In my clinical work, I have found that treating the hearing along with the family member with hearing loss accelerates emotional healing and contributes to more lasting change for all.
